New Sensory Perception for Possible Realities

Can you believe in what you haven’t seen? Or, can you not to believe in what you saw?
Is reality about something what you can see, what you know, or what you are brought up to believe?

a new sound, light, dance performance – a new media experience

Studio Theatre, Hong Kong Cultural Centre
$250, 180

Exploring the relationship between the brain, our sensory perception and the reality we face, true is an exceptional collaboration among 10 cutting-edge Japanese artists across digital media, technology, theatre and dance. They are members of the groups Dumb Type, AbsT, rhizomatiks, Softpad, DGN and VPP.

Through the interfacing technology and the use of myoelectric sensors attached to the performers’ bodies, which provide real-time triggers for sound, mechatronics, lights and video, True creates a completely synchronous, and totally new sensory experience.

HYL/SHOUT Performance Festival 2009 - Oslo, Norway

I can't help to post other people's open call here on this blog, thinking that there are people who either have something they want to show or people would be going to these places, but sometimes just how other people are organising art events can be inspirational. The idea of video marathon did happen here in Hong Kong many many years ago but not a performance marathon.I still wonder if this is only a marketing strategy.

This is a call for participation in a two month long performance marathon which is
scheduled to run from August 1, 2009 through September 30, 2009, in Oslo, Norway.
If you wish to participate with works you are welcome to submit documentation of
previous performances, plan(s) of the performance(es) you wish to show at this
festival, and a brief CV. Photos should be printed on A4 sized paper. Video documentation should be on a DVD with a maximum duration of 5 minutes.

The performance festival is meant, to a certain degree, to be of an activist nature, thus the name HYL/SHOUT Performance Festival 2009. (For an understanding of how we
interpret the word activist, think of direct action, legal/illegal demonstrations, and
intervention in public spaces, etc.) The festival will take place mostly in non-traditional settings like shopping malls, on public transport, in streets, in public parks, etc, i. e. whatever creative places outside of the traditional venues of art galleries and museums you can think of.

Please indicate in the calendar below what date(s) you prefer to perform, your name,
title of your work(s), your e-mail address and phone number, and print and send together with the above mentioned material to:
Åse Karlsen, Stensbergsgata 23 C, NO-0140 Oslo, Norway.

Deadline: June 10, 2009, stamped envelope.

If selected, you'll have to pay your own travel expenses to Oslo, Norway, but we will
provide accommodation on a sofa, or similar, in a private home for two participants
for a maximum of four nights. Please bring your own sleeping bags and towels, etc.

Please indicate in the calendar below what date(s) you prefer to perform, your name, title of your work(s), your e-mail address and phone number:

Saturday 1. August
Eva Drangsholt, commencement location, kl 21 – 22, "Sekhet Iaru", e@evdr.net, no phone

9 evenings- Experiment in Art and technology

Theater-Festival, Armory Hall, New York: In the 1960s, what would later lead to the founding of the organization Experiments in Art and Technology, was first put into practice on a large scale by ten New York artists as a unique festival for electronic as well as interactive performances and demonstrations. The idea of collaborating with technicians, not only initiated by Robert Rauschenberg and Billy Klüver but also organized and largely promoted by them, lead to the performances suggested by the festival title: Nine Evenings with performances by John Cage, Lucinda Childs, Merce Cunningham, Öyvind Fahlström, Alex Hay, Deborah Hay, Steve Paxton, Robert Rauschenberg, David Tudor, and Robert Whitman. Billy Klüver was again the driving force. The main technical element of the performances was the electronic modulation system TEEM, composed of portable, electronic units which functioned without cables by remote control. Cage used this system to activate and deactivate loud speakers that consistently reacted to movement by way of photo-cells. For not always being technically and artistically successful, these performances exhausted for the first time the full range of the live-aspect of electronics, taking advantage of its artistic potential in all of its diversity. Seen in that light, the «9 Evenings» rank among the milestones of media art, even though today only a few filmed documents bear witness to the event.

Dead Language

From 18th to 22th October @ICA London:

Platoons of the latest replicas of Banksy roam the landscape, led by General Clone Banksy, a talentless nobody who once found a sample of Banksy DNA on an empty spray can. A rowdy gang of Tracey Emins wrestle half a dozen dazed Andy Warhols to the ground. It is the future and all forms of art are free, perfect replicas exist of every masterpiece ever created, copyright and ownership are meaningless, ideas are cheap and replicated ad infinitum. Artists have realised that their own identity is the only thing they can own or control, so fans become clones of artists in order to spread their art/identity. One final piece of uncorrupted art remains, yet to be copied: a living story told by Neonate Muses. Come and experience the living story and see how the world died with FoolishPeople's immersive, evolving performance in the ICA theatre. On the Saturday afternoon, a workshop with writer and director John Harrigan will give participants a chance to examine the core concepts of Dead Language: open-source myth, weaponised art and the future of intellectual rights within a dead culture.

"There's a layer to art and entertainment now that's stopping us thinking, it's coming between us and common sense": read Loma-Ann Bonner's interview with Foolish People's John Harrigan in Open Magazine.

TatePlayer: archive of talks, performances, videos...

From Museum Lab

Tate was one of the first museums in the world to record and archive its events online, but never had a good infrastructure to display this rich collection. The Tate Player encompasses audio and video of Tate’s events, and adds new Tate Shots and existing audiovisual works from the Tate Modern collection, such as videos by Gilbert & George, and interviews with Frank Stella and Sol LeWitt.

Internet guerrilla performance

http://www.intima.org/maskabuigues.html

Igor Stromajer's Internet oeuvre is characterized by the substitution of the traditional theatre space by the use of the Internet for his intimate performance.

"Ballettikka Internettikka" realized by net.artist Igor Stromajer and net.composer Brane Zorman is an internet guerrilla performance. Differently from other net.art works by Stromajer, which are confined to fixed spaces on the Net, accessible from infinite co-ordinate combinations of time, place, and space, "Ballettikka Internettikka" combines the Internet based ubication with the artist's placement in an offline scenario (corporeally speaking), so the intervention takes place both online and offline, conceived as a complimentary effect.

This Internet situationist performance is a critique of elitist and bourgeois art spaces and consumer art culture and capitalism, by claiming public art spaces. This is achieved by entering secondary locations of established art institutions and then broadcasting the action via the Internet, taking advantage of the whole new scope that the Internet offers: a higher bandwidth, a complimentary effect to off-line activism, omni-directionality, and participation.
