HORS PISTES 2010 - CALL FOR ENTRIES
Deadline: November 15th, 2009.
The HORS PISTES film festival offers a showcase to unique and audacious videos and films that move away from traditional genres to blend fiction with documentary, contemporary art or experimental formats. The festival, which is non competitive, will be held from February 19th to 28th, 2010, at the Centre Pompidou.
The deadline for entries is November 15th, 2009.
SUBMISSIONS
• Any international 25-65 minutes length work completed after January 2008 is eligible for entry.
• No submission fee is required (or requested).
• Works may be screened in theatre in either 16 or 35 mm film format or in Beta or mini DV video.
• DVD of the work is to be sent – accompanied with a DVD copy of the film – imperatively accompanied by the sender’s contacts – at:

• Participants whose work has been selected are notified by e-mail no later than February 15, 2010.
PROJECTION OF SELECTED WORKS
• Film copies must be of sufficiently good quality for theatre screening. Any defects or special instructions concerning copies should be mentioned in writing and accompany the submission.
• Every copies of the selected works must be received by HORS PISTES no later than February 1st, 2010.
• Shipment of the copy both to the festival and back to its sender is paid for and organized by HORS PISTES.
• HORS PISTES is responsible for the film copy from the time it leaves the sender until the copy is finally returned. Should the copy be lost, stolen or damaged, HORS PISTES will reimburse any costs related to producing an identical replacement copy, based on a comparison of net prices in different countries.
• Any claims relating to the state of the film copy must be addressed to HORS PISTES no later than 14 days after the festival closes.
• A royalty fee of €100 (before tax) will be paid to the owner of the work.
• When HORS PISTES is travelling the owner accept the diffusion of the film and will be paid €100 also.

The Simultan Festival
The Simultan Festival is an annual festival for video, media art, experimental electronic music and a/v projects.
This year's edition runs under the theme Trans:position and will take place on 21-23 May, 2009, in Timisoara, Romania.
The festival wishes to sustain and to stimulate the creative ways of the most modern visions of perceiving and recording the cultural realities in contemporary art.

Call for works of art developed with artificial life technologies and related disciplines
VIDA 11.0 rewards works of art developed with artificial life technologies and related disciplines: robotics, artificial intelligence, etc. We are looking for works of art with emerging behaviours, which evolve over time, react with their environment
and seem to have a life of their own. VIDA 11.0 is searching for projects that relate technology with biology and that research the synthetic characteristics of modern life.
In previous editions, prizes have been awarded to artistic projects created with robots, avatars, recursive chaotic algorithms, knowbots, cellular automata, computer viruses, virtual ecologies that evolve with user interaction, interactive architectures, augmented reality pieces and works that explore the social aspects of A-life.
A total of €40,000 will be awarded to the three projects selected by the jury: First prize: €18,000(*), Second prize: €14,000(*), Third prize: €8,000(*). Make Art -FLOSS based Art
Make Art is an international festival dedicated to the integration of Free/Libre Open Source Software (FLOSS) in digital art. The third edition of make art - OpenOS - will take place in Poitiers (FR), from the 24th to the 30th of November 2008.

SAN JOSE TO WELCOME WORLD TO 2ND BIENNIAL 01SJ ARTS FESTIVAL, JUNE 4-8
There is a very interesting call for proposal from this project- Climate Clock Global Initiative.
And I had been to their first 01 Sj Art Festival in 2006. I am amazed by the momentum of the creativity in art and technology in Sj- Capital of Silicon Valley.
01SJ is North America’s largest festival of digital arts and will showcase more the 100 projects.
To feature new works from an international roster of artists and performers at the cross-section of contemporary art, technology, and culture, the five-day Festival will incorporate exhibitions, films, concerts, performances, happenings, and nightlife occurring throughout downtown San Jose’s parks, public streets, museums, theaters, and clubs.
In its second biennial manifestation, the 01SJ Festival is becoming a signature event for San Jose and all of Silicon Valley as an international gathering for the arts and culture that embraces cutting edge innovation, technology and expression.

It transforms Miller’s encounter with the harsh, dynamic landscape into multimedia portraits with music composed from the different geographies that make up the land mass.
World-renowned Australian artist Craig Walsh has been commissioned to create the third City Hall Rotunda lighting for 01SJ. At the first Biennial 01SJ festival, Akira Hasegawa presented the first Rotunda lighting, Digital Kakejiku. Camille Utterback’s interactive Abundance project was presented in September 2007.

The Climate Clock Global Initiative is seeking ideas from artist-led teams to create a major artwork entitled Climate Clock, which will measure changes in greenhouse gas levels, and be the first in a series of global projects calling attention to climate change. Climate Clock will be an instrument of long-term measurement and will collect data for 100 years. The artwork will be located in downtown San Jose, California, Silicon Valley’s city center, and will be a collaboration between an artist-led team composed of artists, international and Silicon Valley engineers and other creative professionals who are working with climate measurement and data visualization. It is anticipated that the budget for the construction of Climate Clock will be between $5 and $15 million, depending upon the scope of the final proposal.

ATHENS VIDEO ART FESTIVAL 08 - CALL FOR ENTRIES
Athens Video Art Festival is the official Greek festival for video art. It aims to the support of digital culture and the promotion of this modern and innovative form of expression, giving the artists additional motives to create, and a platform to share their artistic vision with the public. Through its three very successful previous materializations, the festival has been endorsed by national factors and media and has gained the support of a big number of artists around the globe.
Athens Video Art Festival is held once a year in April and its call for entries is open from mid October to January.
Artists may participate with works of video art, installation art and performance art.
There is no entry fee.
No restrictions apply regarding the subject. In the case of submission of video art, the length of the video should not exceed 15 minutes. The video must be submitted in DVD (PAL) or mini dv format. Symposium –The Art of the True Illusion and The Cinematic Experience
What’s new this year is that we will be holding two conference days, with themes such as Immersion – The Art of the True Illusion and The Cinematic Experience, a conference organised in association with Interface (a new academic platform set up by KASK (Royal Academy for Fine Arts, Ghent), Ghent University, Free University of Brussels & Utrecht University), Sint-Lukas Brussels – Transmedia.
These conference days are aimed at everyone who wants to know more about the theory behind technology and cinema. Speakers from Belgium and other countries will familiarize you with these subjects.
Media art is the ultimate medium when it comes to immersing the spectator in a virtual world.
The viewer can fight this newly created reality, he can endure it or get carried away by it. Fact is that images, words or music rarely leave you unmoved and sometimes linger in your mind. This phenomenon, called immersion, will be the subject of lectures by a number of artists, art historians and philosophers.

works and projects for the festival 2008. Submissions for both festivals participate in the transmediale Award 2008, for which an international jury will award prizes totalling ca. 10 000 EUR. Abstracts and papers for a proposed Vilm Flusser Theory Award are also being invited.
As one of the leading international festivals for art and digital culture, transmediale presents and pursues the advancement of artistic positions reflecting on the socio-cultural, political and economic impact of new technologies. It seeks out artistic practices that not only respond to scientific or technical developments, but that try to shape the way in which we think about and experience the technologies which impact virtually all aspects of our daily lives. As such, transmediale understands media technologies as cultural techniques that need to be embraced in order to comprehend, critique, and shape global societies.
club transmediale (CTM) is a prominent international festival dedicated to contemporary electronic, digital and experimental music, as well as the diverse range of artistic activities in the context of sound and club culture. CTM presents projects that experiment with new aesthetic parameters and new forms of cooperation, develop possibilities for informational and economic self-determination, and reflect on the role of contemporary music against the backdrop of technological and social transformations. Now more than ever, music emerges as a laboratory for multiform experiments and as an active agent that allows for new cultural techniques to be tested and proffered to the wider world. CTM puts the focus on direct experience, risk-taking and personal interaction, and thereby emphasises the situational potential of live performance, the interplay of various media ??sound and image, in
particular ??and candid exchange between sub-cultural and academic initiatives.

三年前，教育部與澳洲舉辦首次的台澳研討會，以此為兩國的藝術教育搭起了交流橋樑；去年雙方為促使交流更加務實，選定「新媒體藝術」主題而合辦「2006 台澳新媒體藝術論壇」。今年，更在文建會與教育部指導下，國內首度整合三大藝術大學與多所私立院校之資源與師生投入，將原本的「台澳新媒體藝術論壇」擴大為「2007 國際新媒體藝術節」（Traversing Fantasy: International New Media Arts Festival 2007），活動自 5 月 28 日起到 7 月 8 日，期間同時舉行多項新媒體藝術的作品演映、論壇、研討會與工作坊講座等，熱鬧展開，邀請您來共同參與！
五項主要活動為「Boom！快速與凝結新媒體的交互作用－台澳新媒體藝術展」、「看鮮動畫秀」、「媒體無限－台澳新媒體藝術論壇」、「想望科技︰新媒體藝術國際學術研討會」和「藝數工作坊」，此一系列活動邀集了台灣與澳洲、德國、法國等地，數十位學者、領域專家及創作人，齊聚一堂作相關主題發表和交流，具體展現「新媒體藝術」的時代樣貌，盛況非常。

The Optronica Festival
I cannot stretch my holiday and what a pity to miss Optronica. See a report from Shift. Here are some photo of what I had been looking so forward to, EBN Emergency Broadcast Network on top, Peter Greenaway on the middle. Reactive table follows.They all looked fabulous..
some juice: "....This was followed by cinematic luminary Peter Greenaway, who showed off his new live cinema performace, the Tulse Luper ‘stories’, an hour-long show about Uranium (yes, the radioactive substance), and a man’s journey with it. This was depicted by showing the contents of exactly 92 suitcases containing an odd assortment of objects, from ink, blood and a rotting corpse, to pairs of womens underwear. True to form, Greenaway didn’t give too much away in the form of narrative or a coherent meaning, but as usual, the imagery was beautifully rich. What was especially wonderful was the interactive device he used, a touch screen interface which he slid his fingers over to trigger the visuals, departing from the familiar performance-behind-laptop scenario.
Over in the smaller theatre, another live presentation was taking place that would be a shame not to mention – ‘Reactable’, by the Barcelona-based Music Technology Group. Word has it that the legendary Bob Moog had a hand in this piece, although it’s just as plausible to imagine Captain Kirk and Spock playing with it on board the Starship Enterprise. Transparent plastic shapes were shifted around a circular back-lit table, each one triggering a sound relative to its position in relation to other shapes, and eminating a light as they were placed on the surface. It’s got to be one of the most intriguing interactive AV experiments ever undertaken, as a kind of futuristic music-machine which has implications for how we can interact with sound and light simultaneously. And more importantly, it succeeded as a performative piece, because the audience could easily recognise how the sounds were being generated.
‘Reactable’ was performed at various times throughout the festival at the Optronica Lounge, not far from the screening cinema. It provided a relaxed space for visitors to hnag about and experience a range of interactive installations with a handful of couches and beanbags thrown in for comfort. ,,,
...The night’s performers included techno pioneer Speedy J and US collaborator and film-maker Scott Pagano, a live set from veterans Emergency Broadcast Network, and a selection of local DJs and VJs. It was reportedly a real gathering of London’s AV scene, along with a healthy handful of European and international AV artists, and a rare occurance in what is a relatively small scene...."

Peter Greenaway in Optronica
If you are interested in VJ and visual music in the tradition of Oskar Fischinger, you should follow addictive TV's new festival-Optronica 14-18 March 2007 in London. This year's line-up includes the World premières of new shows from a fantastic range of artists including Fred Deakin & Nick Franglen of Lemon Jelly, prolific designer and musician Trevor Jackson, Austrian electronic music pioneer Christian Fennesz with renowned New York video artist Charles Atlas, plus the UK première of Peter Greenaway's Tulse Luper VJ performance and a special World Cinema remix set from current #1 AV artists Addictive TV. Also on the bill are Japanese audiovisual artist Ryoichi Kurokawa, the brilliant Berlin-based Rechenzentrum with a brand new AV show and the highly innovative Spanish team behind Reactable. Saturday 17th, London's ICA hosts an audiovisual club night headlined by Speedy J & Scott Pagano and, just confirmed, a rare and exclusive audiovisual set from EBN's Gardner Post and Brian Kane.
Plus screenings, installations and illustrated talks - including from Cindy Keefer from the LA based Center for Visual Music, Optronica will deliver an incredible selection of aural and visual treats for both connoisseurs and newcomers alike.
Presented as part of the PlayStation® Season, Optronica is organised by artists/producers Addictive TV and new-media curators Cinefeel and in partnership with the British Film Institute.

Venice Cyber Biennale
This exhibition is co-organized with nonprofit art institutes, academic community and various intellectual observers from all over the world with subtile observation and independent opinions. Exhibition works are transparently collected all by means of internet. The First VENICE Cyber Biennale is divided into 5 regions: Europe, America, Africa, Asia, and Australia. The purpose of the division is to facilitate audience to get a better understanding of different regional visual art and cultural identity. This exhibition will be held simultaneously with VENICE Biennale in 2007.
Rules
1. There is no restriction to applicants’ nationality, age, gender or occupation, either in person or in group is welcomed.
2. There is no exhibiting works quantity limit for participant(s), each exhibiting works is regarded as a unit.
3. All exhibiting works of personal or group participants’ must be original creation
4. Either individual applicant or allied authors applicants can enter for the exhibition.
