SERVICE DESIGNING HIGHER EDUCATION

Frustrated that an army of politicians, bureaucrats, auditors, managers and administrators has failed to offer an innovative vision for higher education, Andrew Polaine (founder of the esteemed new media agency AntiRom, and a professor at Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts) has decided to take the initiative. He's launched a project called "Creative Waves COTEN -Service Designing Education" to explore two questions: How might we we re-imagine the structure and experience of higher education using service design techniques? and, can service design be used in a purely online, collaborative environment? Andrew is convinced that service design can make a difference due to its focus on the entire ecology of a service. Andrew invites you to apply your most innovative thinking to the problem.

Education = Video + Game

Just heard from a secondary school teacher that the final essay for General Studies required by the Examination Authority is 5,000 words. It is ridiculous if a BA course final essay is only 3,000 words. So the other option can be to produce a 20 + minutes video and a shorter essays. bUt that is equally ridiculous because for a good video essay especially 20 minutes long requires the effort of a team of TV professional, journalists, so I guess the quality of video writing is expected to be low or minimal.

I am thinking of the copyright issue and if there are suddenly over 100,000 videos produced, there will be many students:
1. buying camera
2. need help in editing
3. want to see the past project for reference

We are forced to leave the words and the poetry behind. Do we teach media literacy in General Studies ?

Last year I did a bit of research on how new media change educations and knowledge management and I was immediately attracted to teaching via gaming and here is a recent post in the Economist that talks about teaching thru video game.

and the video

A new MBA

Design is the future of business so the California Collage of Arts decided to start this new program: MBA in Design Strategy. The first class start in Fall 2008.
The innovative MBA in Design Strategy, which will enroll its first class of students in fall 2008, unites the studies of design, finance, and organizational management in a unique curriculum aimed at providing students with tools and strategies to address today's complex and interconnected market. The program's approach encompasses performance, strategy, innovation, and the encouragement of meaningful, sustainable social change.

I think the Chinese University MA program on cultural management should start thinking about a MBA.

Education is biggest business of all.
